Adjusted Script

We decided to adjust the dialogue section of the script due to the fact it didn't flow as much as we wanted and it seemed a bit forced and clearly scripted. Therefore we added a more casual conversation between the protagonists.

Peer Feedback on the first cut

Title of the opening sequence

Learning Comment:
In this task Imy and I learnt how to add letters on the screen individually, by using keynote. It helped add the effect of the text to look as if it is getting typed with the sound of the typewriter in the background.

First cut of opening sequence

From re watching this Imy and I noticed some errors that we needed to adjust:

- The typography needs to be added and add a typewriting effect to it.

- Some scenes need re shooting such as some areas that were out of focus at 0:42.

- Add a sound of a thud when the protagonist falls to the ground to make it more realistic.

Clarification

We decided to text our main characters to discuss if they are available to reshoot on wednesday for specific areas in our opening sequence.

Feedback

Imy and I created a list of what we needed to improve on and what we needed to reshoot in order to make the opening sequence as smooth and proffesional as ever. This helped us because we had something to follow and we had an ordered plan.

Our Inspiraton

Our inspiration for our opening sequence film was The Fault In Our Stars. It is the same target audience towards young teens or families and it is also based on a teen romance with the protagonist suffering with an illness, in this case she has cancer. something that differentiates with out opening sequence is that we have picked an ambient song whereas in tis film they have put an up beat but also quite chilled song to grab the attention of teens. We see the 2 protagonists quite a lot in this and in our plan Imy and I have involved majority of the opening sequence to be based on Kian and Maisie. The font is also similar to ours, it inspired us to include a hand writing typed font so it looks like it is a very personal film and it can relate to majority o f our audience in some way. Amy and I haven't picked a colour scheme yet but in this film their colour scheme is blue, with different shades being nav dark blue to pastel blue and then white. I think that this is a good colour to use as it reflects sadness and it foreshadows the storyline further on in the film, but with the fun hand writing font it involves a creative and teen look to it.

Learning Comment:
In this task I learnt that having a realistic fall is actually quite hard to achieve without making it funny or not serious, with our serious storyline. Also, by doing this me and Imy now get an insight on what it will look like with Charlotte and Kieran being together as the main characters.

Sound

Powered by emaze
Learning Comment:
In this task Imy and I got an insight on what specific music we need to use for out storyline and we thought ambient based music fit perfectly. We looked at a few different ones and some sound effects for when she falls. We got a taster on different sounds films use and how important it is that they do match the storyline or else it is leading the audience to think differently.

Mind Map

Learning Comment:
In this task Imy and I learnt to store all our ideas together and to create a brief idea on both perspectives.

Script

Learning Comment:
During this task we used a template from word to outline our script so we were aware with how to correctly type it up without it looking scruffy. Having a script is very important in general as it helps us to follow something and to have a guide whilst we film.  I learnt how a script format is played out.

Task 17

Task 17 props & fashion from mona sasani

Learning Comment:
In this task i learnt how to be precise with giving my characters their own personalities by reflecting on what clothes they wear. It is important to give them specific clothing styles to emphasise who they really are as a character, Imy and I learnt more about how our characters are and what they are like.

Task 19 -Typography

Screen+Shot+2016-11-15+at+13.52.29.png

Learning Comment:
In this task Imy and I learnt that different fonts will reflect different meanings towards the storyline. Majority of people picked the neat and tidy font for this specific genre, as it is a romance between two teenagers. We asked multiple people to get different insights on what people liked and disliked, this was a very handy solution as we wanted to pick something that would grab the target audiences attention.

Storyboard

Learning Comment:
This task helped us really organise the whole storyline together and to put it all in a storyboard to make it look a lot neater and to just briefly put it together introducing the 2 main characters.

task 12- Audience profile

Taask12 from mona sasani

Learning Comment:
In this task i learnt how to use the demographic and Psychographic way of categorising my characters and the target audience for our film. This helped a lot as i got to decide what type of people my characters would be attracting and what type of people they are. This is a good way of organising how to categorise characters and it gives us an insight on what we will be doing with them.

Task 12

Powered by emaze
Learning Comment:
In this task i learnt to specifically categorise our film based on its storyline and its theme of it being a coming of age romance film. It was slightly difficult to work out the gender target audience as it comes across being for females but the action and the harsh intense reality of the illness she suffers may be able to attract men that can relate with the characters.

Film Review

A Separation.

I recently watched this film and enjoyed it thoroughly for multiple reasons. I first found out it was based in my home country Iran and that attracted me into watching it, due to the fact not a lot of American/Iranian based films are made and if they are they're usually nothing too good, whereas this film won an oscar in 2012! What mainly grabbed my attention was the very intense storyline.Usually i would go for a teenage comedy film so this was a very different style for me and I had a very emotional response to it. It helps gain a lot of knowledge of the Iranian culture, but it also helps let the audience understand about the difficult things we have to go through in life. I would recommend this to families with older teen children, or for people that are interested in finding more knowledge about cultures.

Task9

Representation In films~

Representation in films from mona sasani

 Learning Comment:
This task taught me a lot about how the important characters in films are shown and how they are introduced. It was very interesting as I learnt that the smaller characters are not even shown until later on in the film but the main characters are instantley shown for example in Slumdog Millionaire the first thing we see is a close up of the protagonists face. Also, costumes and the way people are dressed can reflect strongly on how you would feel towards that character, if they are wearing very formal clothing instantley you'd notice that they are of an upper class.

Using a green screen

Re-Making a film opening scene

Mean Girls from Charlotte Bancroft on Vimeo.

For our opening sequence we picked the mean girls one as it is a very relatable topic/film and seemed super fun to film, and we were correct! Throughout the whole re make of the filming we enjoyed every part of it.
What went well:
Firstly, the quality of the camera we used to video this was amazing! It makes it look extremely professional making it as good as the original opening sequence. Secondly, we decided to give the green screen an attempt and see how we would cope using it with no experience with it whatsoever, and it turned out great! Despite the fact the backgrounds of South Africa are not spot on compared to the original, it was inevitable for us to use the green screen as we would not have been able to go too South Africa and back for the day! :) However, the editing for the green screen is neatly done and it shows the scenery we needed. Thirdly, we used the exact same sound track as the original film. The music is perfectly synced with the shots and also the voice over goes very smoothly and is clear and we can understand what is being said.
What we can improve:
After re watching and comparing the original opening sequence to our re make version we realised a scene was missing from our replica. There was originally a shot of a house but unfortunately we missed that out and did not realise till later on. Also, the sound does not flow very well as the background sound reduces or increases in volume due to different areas of filming with it being outside with the wind or in a quiet area. Next time we would need to use iMovie to edit and change all the background sound to the same volume.
Learning Comment:
Throughout this task of re making an opening sequence for Mean Girls I learnt a lot of different things. The first being the major one that being anywhere and with any camera it picks up the smallest sounds making it seem quite unprofessional and rushed, our teacher pointed this out to us and we compared it to the original and realised that professional film makers do have to edit the background noises a lot. So for our final piece we would have to learn how to do this so it does not distract the audience and make it seem unprofessional. Also, I learnt how to use a green screen and how to edit the photos on it, personally I found this part super amusing! How one moment we can be in Africa then the next in space! We got super creative with a few.

20 Shots task

20 Shot Task from Charlotte Bancroft on Vimeo.

What went well:
During this task, me and my group had so much fun! We came across the conversation quite spontaneously and we managed to make it flow quite smoothly, making the conversation very casual and cool. We used a range of shot reverse shot, 180 degree rule and certain scenes were cut very nicely.
What we can improve:
Due to the fact this was filmed outside, the noise of the wind is slightly distracting. Next time we could use IMovies to edit that noise out and replace it with some background music that will match the film.
Learning Commennt:
This was super funny to film, but at the same time I learnt how very small 3 second clips added together can actually make a storyline! We needed a lot of patience with this and we were happy with the end result.

Task 10- Analaysis on a previous students work

 learning comment:
This task was lots of fun as me and my friend Imy combined our work and helped each other. I noticed in these two particular opening sequences that they are both so unique and very eye catching compared to the other and it makes them stand out. The one about the girl being  a rebellious teenager is very nicely done and even though it is simple it adds a personal feeling towards the young teen audience. And blur being a very unique story line from what we see with it being about a blind boy. In my opening sequence I would love to have these particular touches to it, being unique but also simple. I also learnt how to use a website called Emaze to set out my research.
