Slumdog Millionaire.
Task7 life of pi from mona sasani
Similarities:
In these 3 opening sequences i noticed a few similarities within the structure and form the text was introduced to the audience. Slumdog millionaire differentiated quite dramatically from The life of Pi and Step brothers, due to the fact there was no credits or much text was shown on screen in general. Whereas, in contrast the other 2 films packed all their information and credits in the opening sequence. They both introduced the main characters first (Will Ferrell and Suraj Sharma and Tabu). Also, these two films both have music in the beginning that also reflects on the storyline afterwards, for example Step brothers is playing a very punk rock song that we then learn is about 2 care free rock loving men. The biggest thing I noticed within the three opening sequences was the very simple and small sized font. The most common used was the small size 11/12 font in the colour white, to contrast with the black backgrounds. But when the title of the film appears a big unique font shows up, with Life of Pi's being white and orange with a pretty curly font to match the green environmental flowery background. This is to grab the audience's eye and to recognize the films name of course.
Differences:
The biggest difference I spotted within these 3 opening sequences was the way the font turned up onto the screen. Whilst the Life of Pi's text shows very calmly and slowly it fades in and out of the screen to match the very calm and beautiful environment of India it is showing of the animals and plants, but in contrast the Step-Brothers opening there is a very care free and cool spirit towards the text as it pops up on the screen all over in different corners and different areas. This clearly indicates the very different storylines.
Learning Comment
In this task I learnt how different films use different ways to express their characters and storylines and majority of the time it is through text. In my opinion my favorite film I analysed was the Life of Pi due to the fact it was the most different and also fit the adventurous genre.
